On February 29, 2016, the United States Supreme Court announced its decision not to hear the American Farm Bureau Federation's final appeal challenging the Chesapeake Clean Water Blueprint (the federal/state Bay clean-up plan). This decision let stand the ruling of the Third Circuit Court of Appeals, which found that the Blueprint stands on firm legal ground and concludes five years of litigation.
CBF was instrumental in the case, providing legal memoranda and oral arguments before two federal courts, keeping the issue before the public and the media, and rallying a coalition of experts who spoke out in support of the legality of the Blueprint.
The stakes couldn't have been higher, as the case threatened to halt multi-state clean-up efforts. The commitment of our members was pivotal to this tremendous achievement, enabling us to mount a strong legal defense.
